Aquaculture Statistics
As per the FAO report on The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2020, 82.1 million tonnes of aquatic animals, 32.4 million tonnes of aquatic algae and 26,000 tonnes of ornamental seashells and pearls were produced.
In 2018, inland aquaculture produced 51.3 million tonnes of aquatic animals, accounting for 62.5 percent of the world’s farmed food fish production.
In total, about 20.5 million people were employed in aquaculture and 39.0 million in fisheries, a slight increase from 2016.
